Add Color To Your Marketing … Here comes 2014’s Color of the Year

Pantone 2014Yesterday, Pantone announced its color of the year for 2014. Since Pantone is the authority on all things color, and since color dominates so much of our marketing world… it deserves a note here.

These annual color choices are one of the best examples of smart end-of-year marketing and PR.  And if the volume of coverage this announcement received is any indication, then you can be sure it was one of those news releases that took off around the globe.  Pantone has a link to its news release on its home page, www.Pantone.com.

The color choice for 2014 is Radiant Orchid, as “an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones” that “inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health.”

When I Googled ‘Radiant Orchid’ this morning I was impressed by how many ways news outlets used this color angle:

Travel media used it to show places in the world where Radiant Orchid could be found. Like this gorgeous photo taken in Venice, Italy.Venice and Pantone 2014 color of the year

Food sites showed where to find this color in food and table settings.  Note the purple colored asparagus and carrots in your grocery store’s produce aisle?

Clothing designers are all over this because the Radiant Orchid tones ‘enhance every skin tone’!

Look for furniture, textiles, toys and so much more (there must be a new sports team uniform coming in this color soon!) to show up in this “dreamy hue” in the months ahead.

An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.

And since it is far better to use visuals on this topic, I leave you with these and ask you to think about what you can promote as a trend or story looking ahead to 2014 – this is the time of year and journalists, bloggers, photographers and other communicators are looking for 2014 stories – so use your imagination and add some color!
